Teach a child to sail to learn life skills, team work and safe boating.

There is no other sport, educational activity or training a child can undertake that builds character like sailing. It teaches team work and the consequences of decision making. Sailing like flying requires awareness of the wind, an understanding of unseen forces and a competency of technical skills which you rely on to chart your course and return home safely. What other experience can you begin as young as the age of 7 and spend a lifetime enjoying?

Since its inception Opti sailing was designed to introduce children to the joys of sailing and be a platform from which they could learn grow, and if the interest and talent was there, embark on a path through the various levels of sailing that include competitive sailing and for those who excel to progress to an international and Olympic level of skills.

Sailing School Fund Raising

The Outer Harbour Centreboard Club is a not-for-profit member run club with a dedicated core of ‘old salts’ who put countless hours into planning and running the Youth Sailing Program. From the business plan to the replacement of equipment many different hands are on deck to give boys and girls the opportunity to learn a sport they can enjoy right on Toronto’s waterfront.

The fund raising undertaken by OHCC, Navy League Cadets, Sea Cadets and Air Cadets is multi level. The OHCC effort to raise sponsorship dollars will offset a portion of the cost to send a cadet to sailing school.

The program is designed for cadets to attend the sailing school at a dramatically reduced cost. The financial contributions and generous support of OHCC and others make it possible for cadets to experience the joys of sailing.

The Navy League of Canada was established in 1895 to promote an interest in Maritime Affairs generally throughout Canada. Today, The Navy League of Canada has a presence in over 260 Canadian communities. Our youth programs benefit 15,000 young Canadians every year, and we continue to grow.

The modern Navy League focuses on three key programs:
Maritime Affairs
Royal Canadian Sea Cadets
Navy League Cadets

Since 1948, the Navy League Cadet program has introduced young Canadians to a nautical life.

Navy League Cadets get to do a lot of fun, interesting activities, in an environment that emphasises teamwork. The Navy League Cadet Program is a great place to make friends and do things you wouldn’t get to do anywhere else.

Navy League Officers and volunteers promote, organize, sponsor, support and encourage the education and training of the youth of the country through Cadet movements and other youth groups with a maritime orientation, and through the provision of recreational opportunities and training, to promote the physical and mental fitness of the boys and girls participating in the Cadet Programmes.

Sea Cadet Corps

The Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps is a youth program delivered in partnership by The Navy League of Canada and the Department of National Defence. The Sea Cadet program is an exciting program that provides opportunities and challenges relevant for today’s youth. The program fosters the development of leadership skills, good citizenship and physical fitness.

While the program introduces cadets to ‘what’ the Navy is all about, Cadets are not members of the Canadian Forces and are free to leave the program at any time.

Air Cadets

The Air Cadet League also believes that Air Cadets should have every opportunity to qualify for the most attractive rewards the program can offer, and that a cadet should be able to earn these awards in only one way – through merit. None of the Air Cadet training rewards or scholarships can be purchased; they must be earned through good service with the squadrons and by meeting the standards that have been laid down.
